To Everything There Is A Season

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

It is no secret in our house that Ecclesiastes is my favorite book of the Bible. The poetry of the first few verses in Chapter 3 make my heart sing! It was most likely written by King Solomon who was arguably one of the more wise of the prophets who wrote the Bible. We even have a Tunis ram on our farm named Solomon for his austere demeanor and regal presence, but that's a different story!

Ecclesiastes was most likely written by Solomon in his sunset years. He was a great king, and, for most of his life, loved God and followed his commandments. However, like all men, he did fall off the God Wagon, and Ecclesiastes was written to reflect on that time in his life as well as warn others Satan's temptation.

Ecclesiastes Chapter 3:1-8
To Everything There is a Season
1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

I will be honest. Right now, we are going through a season of sadness on our farm.

We have had a hard time raising babies on our farm this year. It was the perfect storm of parasites, heat, dry, and then excessively wet conditions that started the parasite life cycle all over again. Every goat kid that was born our on farm in February of this year has died - except one. We praise The Lord for blessing her with good health! We have also lost two lambs that we brought onto the farm to raise as meat.

Returning them to the Earth is the part of farming livestock that I will never get used to. Even now as a type, I am fighting back tears. Each one of our animals holds a special place in my heart. My husband, Brad, might even tell you that I am too tenderhearted for farm life.

BUT - this season of sadness is just that: a season. While I am weeping and mourning our lost lambs and kids now, I know that spring is coming, and we will have new babies to care for! Our does and ewes are pregnant, so we will be dancing with excitement when they are born!

Praise The Lord that he has blessed us with many seasons in life. For without the hard times, we might not reach out to Him.
